Abstract

This paper deals with an experimental teaching device involving the use of a discussion/debate technique, intended as a supplement to the traditional lecture- assignment-test Format. The core of the experiment consists of assigning a debate topic to groups of students in class, to be followed by intra-group discussion and inter-group debate. The idea is that the students may learn new concepts and principles better by working together in small groups and debating with the other groups. Although there are limitations, the experiment has produced promising results.
