Teaching Performance Appraisal Skills: An Experiential Approach

Abstract

Teaching people interpersonal skills is a difficult task. In management, interpersonal skills are becoming more important and there is increasing pressure on business schools to teach students to effectively use those skills. Performance appraisal is an example where the need for interpersonal skills is gaining importance. This paper presents a design and methodology for improving the effectiveness of teaching the interpersonal skills involved in performance appraisal. The design emphasizes realism, observation, and feedback.
