Incorporating MIS/DSS into Policy Courses via Simulation

Abstract


There is a trend to emphasize management information systems (MIS) and decision support systems (DSS) for the business curriculum. The development of successful DSS’s heavily depends upon effective managerial involvement in the logical design of both managerial decision processes and software systems to support those processes. To achieve this, it is necessary to introduce non- MIS students to DSS concepts so that they can understand their potential role in DSS development. This paper is devoted to a discussion of how simulation can be successfully utilized in policy courses to illustrate DSS design and development.
