Simulation Exercises and Problem Based Learning: Is There a Fit?

Philip H. Anderson, Leigh Lawton

Problem Based Learning (PBL) has become a recognized pedagogical aid for designing courses. Key to successful implementation of this pedagogy is the use of a “good problemâ€. Factors that need to be considered when using a simulation exercise as a PBL problem are discussed. This study demonstrated that simulations can effectively serve as the “problem†in a PBL designed course. Limitations and directions for future research are explored.
